Daft q: i couldnt get the cpl to bind on my canon lens...but its fine when on the uv one... - do i have to have both attached?

You should normally only be attaching one of these filters. The CPL one fits differently, because as well as screwing onto the lens, the filter can also be rotated whilst it is attached. This makes the screwing onto the lens a bit more fiddly. Once attached, you should be able to see the image changing as you rotate the filter.
