as long as your lens size is same the filter size, the filter can use on a telephoto lens Please verify your camera's lens thread size before ordering. Your camera's lens thread size will be marked somewhere on the lens barrel or printed underneath your lens cap. This number is always preceded by a "ø" (diameter) symbol. 

To hold telephoto lens, it is recommended to use a tripod mount ring additionally for better balance. Meanwhile, it is better to hang some heavy thing to the hook to lower the center of gravity on this tripod to make it more sturdy and less prone to vibrations. 

It depends on the lens. This filter just screwed into the ring surrounding my Nikkor 18-33mm lens. I also have an Olympus TG-6 and had to buy an adapter ring to use with the filter.
