Found my wedding ring at the beach!
Disclaimer: I never purchased this item, I rented one from a local store.
Lost my wedding ring at the beach last night. After returning home and searching my entire house, it was obvious my ring fell off my beach chair and was “lost." I returned to the beach with a headlamp, bucket and lantern. I outlined a 10` x `10` grid in the sand where we were sitting earlier that evening.
After searching for 2 hours with a flashlight I gave up and came to grips with the fact that it was lost. I dug a massive hole in the sand as a marker just incase I wanted to return the next morning to continue the search. My wife was very sad, which translated into me being sad as well (otherwise I would have been fine replacing with a $9 silicone ring).
This morning I woke up and searched for used metal detectors on Craigslist, finding a few within a very reasonable price range. After searching the model names I discovered the ones available for sale on Craigslist were sub-par, and owning a metal detector was not necessarily something I cared about.
I called a local tool rental company and found the Garrett Ace 250 available to rent for $25. Picked up the rental first thing in the morning, within 5 minutes of using the device (incredibly easy to figure out for a newbie even without instructions) I found my ring.
I was very skeptical and figured the rental and attempt to use a metal detector would only serve the purpose of feel like I did everything possible to find the ring before giving up. I was SHOCKED to not only find my ring (which was buried under 4" of sand) but to have done so in about 5 minutes.
I might actually purchase a unit myself just as a "backup" as my family lives at the beach, and I have a tendency to lose valuable things :-)
100% recommend this model for ease, quality and accuracy.
