The frame of the filter is a bit thicker than others, but there was no vignetting on my 28-70mm lens. This might make my skin look a little less dry, which is a good thing. it also smoothed it out a bit.

I am a photographer who shoots both digital and analogue. Sometimes I really want to give my black and white photos a moody look that is hard to achieve with digital photos (at least for me). These filters create just enough diffusion to soften the skin, provide a slight halo effect, and enhance the mood of a foggy scene.

There are two different thicknesses in this package - 1/8 and 1/4. They are screwed together upon receipt and both placed in a small plastic container. They were pretty tight together but were easy to separate with a pair of filter wrenches. When screwed into a lens or a quality step-up ring, they screwed on easily without binding and were easy to remove even when screwed on tightly. These filters did not produce a color cast.

The effects of the 1/8 power filter are very subtle, and the 1/4 power filter creates more of the look I'm looking for. You can stack these filters to get even more diffusion, but that's probably not a good idea in bright sunlight as it's likely to result in stray light caused by light reflecting back and forth between the filters.

I was impressed with K&F Concepts' overall quality and aggressive pricing strategy. Every time I picked up one of their products it was better than my previous purchase. If you want to add a little more diffusion to your photos or videos, these filters should definitely be on your list of possibilities.

So two things – how good is the filter – and when do you use diffusion?

The processing quality of the filter is really very good. The K series only has 18 layers of coating compared to 28 layers on the nicer series. But at $50 for two filters, I'm not complaining. It's a clean image with no flair or distortion (used alone).

Nowadays, diffusion is mainly used for special effects. 95% of the time, I prefer to add image blur in post-production (e.g. reduce clarity) rather than blur my digital file. However, if you do video, volume, film, or special effects work, this is a great tool.

I prefer to use it for Old Hollywood style B&W portraits. Use 1/4 diffusion, convert to black and white, add contrast and grain - and you have a sexy image with some seriously retro vibes. I love it!

If you're looking for a way to soften your shots without spending a lot of money, this set might be right for you. I found that the effect of the 1/8 filter was barely noticeable except in the details. The 1/4 filter is still subtle, but you start to see the effect of the filter, especially when the image has a lot of contrast. However, the effect is not as pronounced with low-contract recordings.

The threads of the filters are well cut and the build quality is excellent. With artistic filters like these, the question of whether the effect is desired is very subjective, but I'm quite happy with it.

My Nikon DSLR camera is far beyond my capabilities and this was my first time using a lens filter. I always put a Tiffen UV protector on the lens and these work the same way, even in any combination. They are a little narrower than my old UV shield, but are still easy to attach, remove and rearrange on the lens.

I captured a series of simple sunny outdoor nature photos using all filter combinations in a matter of minutes. When I first looked at the photos I thought the differences wouldn't be noticeable, but showing them side by side on the same screen reveals that even my uninformed and effortless experiment actually produces a meaningful effect. Subtle, even when 1/4 and 1/8 are combined,

The pair of K&F Black Diffusion Filters (1/8 and 1/4) came in a plastic case with three microfiber cleaning cloths. The filters were screwed together and easily separated from each other. The case had no foam, so they can slide around in the suitcase when traveling with them. The filters are very thin and light (aluminum frame) and nano-coated. It was very hard for me to tell the difference between using them and a regular UV filter. When shooting outdoors, I didn't see any difference whether it was lit from behind or directly/evenly. The details and colors were also the same. When used indoors or in the evening, it provided a very subtle diffusion of light sources. Overall this is a quality filter, I'm just not sure how I would use it. Rated 3 stars.

Another great benefit from K&F, although I have to admit this is my first diffusion filter of this type so I can't offer a comparison with other brands. Regardless, I think they are solid and well made, and first impressions are that they are very good in terms of coating in this price range.

Overall, I feel like these diffusion filters are more of a novelty and artistic element, so I care less about achieving the absolute best possible optical performance. Still, I don't feel like they noticeably distort or discolor the image, aside from the obviously desired diffusion effect. The colors still appear to be neutral and free of excessive glare and flare.

The only downside is that they come in a sort of regular plastic storage box that allows them to slide around freely, especially if you only store one filter at a time. But I think this is rather minor and I should probably invest in a special filter cover.

I've been working with black diffusion filters for a few years now and have amassed a small collection including the classic Tiffen Black Pro Mists and a handful of various cheaper off brands.

Like all 1/8 and 1/4 strength black “mist” diffusion filters, these have a subtle effect that you may want to apply selectively depending on your creative vision for what you want to photograph.

I would compare these to my Tiffens in terms of quality of both construction and impact, and at around $45 a pair they are a great way to play with that impact without breaking the bank. I can recommend these without hesitation.

-Makes certain shots look angelic (if you can describe it that way)
-Softens the skin (my camera has this feature built in but I don't use it)
-If I were filming a hero shot in the sun , This is what I would use.

Overall, I wish I knew more about this to tell you about it, but I'm still learning and this will be a handy tool to make my hero shots look more cinematic.
