Photography is one of my many hobbies and I like to experiment with different techniques. When I found this kaleidoscope filter, I wanted to see what kind of photos it could produce. I’m happy with the results and it adds both texture and depth to your photos in a fun way.

I know there are several apps that perform filtering these days, but I always enjoy native formats and allowing the optics to perform to their abilities without digital noise.

The filter screws on easily and then comes off just as easy with clean quality threads. Mine came in its own protective case along with some cleaning wipes to get started but I also have mine own multi-filter case that holds this addition just fine.

This is definitely a gimmick item but sometimes it's fun to pull out a few weird but fun images during a wedding day. I've tried it a couple times and the couples thought the results were neat. While it's not something to use for an entire session it is a fun thing to stretch the creative muscles with.

This is one of the most convenient handheld kaleidoscope style filters that I have used. I have many different versions of this style of filter that I have collected over the years. This particular filter is a half piece with a convenient and thoughtful handle built onto it. That handle reduces smudges and fingerprints from abounding contact with the glass itself. This can be used to give you nice nostalgic like looks to your images and it can be tilted more off axis to add a slight mirroring effect with the kaleidoscope look.

The glass is really thick and looks great. The handle feels aluminum and is very sturdy. It feels far from cheap.

Not used in anger yet but had a brief "play" indoors. Very heavy and solidly built. One of those things that won't get used much but will be a fun addition to the bag.

This thing is cool, but it only has 1 refractory look, which is fine. It isn't the most comfortable thing to hold, and it's not a necessity to your kit, but fun to use sometimes. I'm also worried about it's durability in the field since it's a big piece of glass, I just put it right back in its case right after I'm done with it, and you always have to wipe fingerprints off it

This is a nifty handheld filter that I wanted to give a try to add a unique artistic effect to my photos. I've been shooting professionally for a number of years, and I've often found that odd items like this can add a touch to a photograph that no amount of post-processing could imagine.

I found it incredibly hard to use this while shooting with a DSLR. If you're on a tripod, I could see it - and it'll give you a shadowed effect like those 70s and 80s portraits with a double image. The trouble for me is I rarely shoot on a tripod, and one handing a D800 for hours isn't really in my list of want to dos. So I tried it with my phone, and I truly got much better results.

With a mobile phone, you can maneuver this into angles that are nearly impossible with a larger lens (the edge of the filter tends to wander into frame). The ability to move it farther and closer to the lens gives you a wide range of different visual effects, and since they're on your phone, you can immediately see a large preview (I only shoot through viewfinder, so this isn't a fit for my process). For people making online content or working primarily from a mobile device, this filter is a really cool way to add a unique visual touch to your work pre-process - an old school trick photographers like me have been using for years to help their work stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Well, I guess you COULD try to handhold this while shooting but it's pretty tuff to do. The ideal situation is on a tripod where you can move the filter in and out of frame, likely during the shooting a video, to add some pretty cool lens effects. Since I rarely shoot photos on a tripod, I found that using a version that threads onto your lens to be a much better option. One of the big benefits of this handheld version is that you can yet your focus and then add the effect in, where as with the threaded versions you have to rely on your center focus point and hope that the effect isn't kicking back so much light that it messes with your ability to focus. Definitely a quality piece of glass at a fraction of what the other companies are charging.

this filter lets me create unique portraits fairly easily. it took a little getting used to how to place it, but i've pretty much got the hang of it. i also like using this to create in camera video transitions. you can swipe it slowly across the lens to create the transitions. the handle makes it really easy to hold and pinpoint exactly how you want it. i really like that it came with a case and a few cleaning cloths as well.

This is a special effect lens that gives a kaleidoscope image. I took it only because it was a vine item and since I am a life long amateur photographer I thought I would give it a shot. It is a lens you set up and play with and see what your getting and that's the problem for me. Its just a technique that I don't much care for. The lens is nicely made and of good quality, comes with its own carry box and some very good cleaning cloths. I will be using this come summer on my boat. I like to drive next to the 1000 foot ore freighters we have plying our great lakes and maybe try this lens on them. If I use this on a subject I care about maybe I will get results I like better.
