Used for cannon lenses. The default “here to here” dimming setting is checked, but it is set as if it were going through the viewfinder. The product notes also say that X is entered when the maximum value is reached, but if you use it normally the light will probably be dimmed that much. If you are a professional photographer, you will need more attention to detail, but if you put your skills into whether you can master it with a product that is reasonable for the price or not, it is enough work. This is called a variable ND filter with a good price-performance ratio.
At this price, this dimming is adequate for my transfer skills. At this price, this dimming is adequate for my transfer skills.

No X mark between all layers. No color cast. Great quality for the price. I love it! I would absolutely recommend this.

As a storm chaser, this shot is exactly what the filter was purchased for. No flash trigger, just a 4 second exposure at ISO 50 with a 5D Mk IV
Allows for longer exposures in bright light

Long exposure. I barely used it at first, but now I'm a big fan. I looked around and found the perfect tripod (Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod, also great). When that came up, I mentioned to my friend that I was planning on doing waterfalls with a slow shutter speed and he said, "You need an ND filter, right?" I knew I had a trip to Letchworth that weekend had in front of me. That evening I jumped on Amazon, browsed around and found this product. Perfect size for my Zeiss 50mm and 35mm! It wasn't until I got to Letchworth that I really had the chance to get to grips with this ND filter and wow was I blown away! The clear rolling ring and clear black tone make this product so incredible. So worth the price! I'm blown away by the fact that this doesn't affect the quality of the shots my lenses can achieve. I now love long exposures. With my light tripod and filter I can only grow. I have included an image of a covered bridge in Cuyahoga Valley National Park taken with this filter. The shutter speed was eight seconds.
This filter is capable of producing stunning images at such a great price.

I found a great deal on Sandmarc lenses online and grabbed them. But for outdoor shots I need an ND filter because of the bright California sun. I have a lens adapter for Sandmarc but they use 40.6mm. This is probably why you have to buy expensive lenses and filters. Since I'm not a professional who can justify an expensive filter, I tried this one with 40.5. AND they fit. I can't judge the quality because I haven't used it yet.
They fit Sandmarc glasses and that's great. They fit Sandmarc glasses and that's great. They fit Sandmarc glasses and that's great. They fit Sandmarc glasses and that's great.

This thing is ridiculous! I got it yesterday and took it with me today to take some waterfall photos in a small stream nearby. That was around 5 p.m. Beautiful, bright, sunny day. I could easily take 20 second shots and could have taken even longer shots. I did see some nasty flare in some of my pictures, but I think that was my problem since I was shooting towards the sun and it doesn't show up in all of my pictures. I'll have to try it again and shoot with the sun behind me and see how it works. But given the price, there's no reason not to have one for each of your lenses. Very happy with it. And it's beautifully made of metal and screws in easily. 6 stars!
Beautiful, bright

I almost gave up on trying to invest in an ND filter because I wasn't ready to spend $200 or more on some waterfall shots. Came across this one and LOVED it. Took it on my trip to Italy, and it provided some phenomenal shots in full daylight. It worked great with both 30-second exposures of waterfalls and also when I just needed it to block out the haze from the rising sun at the top of St. Peter's Basilica. Sure, there might be a shadow around the edges, but the overall quality of the photos that this provides is well worth it.
Spectacular filter for the price! Spectacular filter for the price!

Love it. Easy to use. Must use dots for correct alignment. Moving to the min/max mark will produce the "X" you see in some photos. That is purely user error. I've done it myself. What I love about the variable filter is I can put this filter on my lens on the lowest setting, set up my shot and focus and then twist it to the max setting to take my shot. No need to remove the filter to set up another composition.

Iso 100
shutter 1/6th sec
f/4.5 (I think)
Nd- highest setting

Rushed to take this shot as I was being eaten alive by black flies. So i messed my aperture up and kept bumping my shutter up instead to get an acceptable exposure. I also had some condensation on my lens when I was screwing on the filter so there is a haze towards the top of the image. Shoulda used f/11+ and a 1 second exposure, but the water still blended nicely.
Great filter
